5 out of 5 stars Excellent guide   July 20, 2010
Active seniors
I wish I had purchased this book last year before I visited the lovely island of Korcula and also Dubrovnik. This guide is excellent giving all the information needed for your holiday. Hopefully the description of Rovinj where i am going this year will prove just as helpful. This is up-to-date and accurate information of this beautiful country.

1 out of 5 stars Lacking useful information for the Northern Dalmation area.   July 14, 2010

I found this guide book largely useless for the area we visited. The map of Zadar does not include the area where most of the accomodation mentioned in the book is and the distances given are misleading.

The few paragraphs on Ugljan island could have mentioned public transport on the island (there are fairly regular buses that meet the ferry's from Zadar, not every ferry tho'). Instead it suggested some places to visit if you had a car (which are accessible by bus) and had some general waffle about the island.

The information on Plitvice Lakes was ok, but possibly because no information was really needed. Except it could have mentioned the shuttle bus' between the nearest campsite and various other accomodation points. Luckily it did mention that the bus from Zadar will drop you off at the campsite if you ask the driver.

Overall, for the region I visited I found this guidebook to be lazily written and low on information. I would not recommend it.

2 out of 5 stars Buy the rough guide instead   June 17, 2010

My travel buddy had the rough guide it was much better than the lonely planet.
Sections of the lonely planet had been made up. For example a monastery described as having 'wonderful painted ceilings and a floor made of tombstones' actually had a White ceiling and a tiled floor.
In comparison to the rough guide, the LP was simple short on info. The RG had more historical info and info on more things to see and do.
I'm definitely going with RG next time.

2 out of 5 stars Usual LP lack of accuracy   February 26, 2010

Lots and lots of info. in this guidebook, but who knows how much of it is accurate. In our one week trip where we stayed in one place (not found in the guidebook, but the Trip Advisor website - a much better place for accommodation advice), on the island of Pag, we found several innacuracies. Most annoying being in regard to the regularity of ferries and in maps.
I used to buy 'Lovely Planet' guides all the time but find the innaccuracies and author's opinion increasingly grating. I only bought this one because it was much more recent than the Rough Guide. I wouldn't recommend this one.

OK, so there aren't loads of photos, but the useful tips and the history are excellent and very honest. Made great reading on the coach from the airport and on day trips.
