RYA Navigation May 6, 2010 M. North An excellent book covering all you need to know for the RYA Day Skipper course and exam. Its well written and logically laid out with worked examples to illustrate the points being made. I'd also recommend buying the Navigation exersises so that you can put into practice what you've just learnt in this book.

Excellent book,
It show you all the aspects of navigation every step of the way. It make it easy to understand the more complex theories because you were shown how it got there in very simple steps.
RYA: Navigation Handbook March 3, 2010 Arturo Centore 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
You NEED this book if you have a boat, if you are planning to work at sea, if you are going to do the Yachtmaster exam (theroy and practical), if you are a crew member, if you are going to do an OOW (officer of the watch) oral exam or simply just because you living by the Sea !!
Good book to review all the coastal navigation. Always buy together with the Navigation Exercises book to test your skills. One of the MUST have book.
A good introduction which lacks sufficient practical examples December 13, 2009 JJ WALRAVENS (Madrid) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book does a good job at explaining most of the basics concepts of navigation. It covers all elements of navigation in simple language which is easy enough for an interested novice to understand. However, it would prove to be insufficient to support anyone who is studying to pass his/her shorebased Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster exam. Whilst the book illustrates most of the concepts which are discussed, there are too few practical examples which allow the reader to test his/her understanding. There are also a lot of references to the use of radar for navigation which is a bit of overkill. The book is clearly written at the level of a novice to navigation and it would have been more helpful to explore the basic concepts with more depth rather than confuse the readers with references to the use of radar, a navigation tool they are unlikely to use any time soon. All in all, a good book to read before following a shore based RYA course, but of little value to anyone who understands the basics of navigation.

Excellent supplement for anyone studying the Day Skipper Course. Comprehensively expands on a potentially difficult aspect of the course.
