| Customer Reviews: Competent Crew May 4, 2009 D. Chapman 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent Book, I was able to attend my course with the knowledge of what the instructor was teaching me thanks to its contents. Easily understood and easy to follow.
Good Coverage, Well Written, Useful. May 22, 2001 29 out of 31 found this review helpful
I bought this book to prepare for a Competent Crew practical course, and found it very useful. The Book covers the syllabus to a depth that a beginner can understand. The book is not strong on explaining the background to material covered, and does not have many lists, rather the steps in a procedure are explained in narrative. This will suit some readers, but personally I would have preferred a list-oriented approach. Close reading revealed some holes in the explanations, e.g. when preparing to abandon ship, one step is to inflate the yacht's dinghy, but at no stage is the dinghy ever used! Diagrams are clear and add to the explanations.
