3 out of 5 stars ICC and CEVNI   September 12, 2009

This book is a mash-up of several other RYA publications so make sure that you really need it before you buy. For example, I see that it is often bought with the book: "RYA European Waterways Regulations: The CEVNI Rules Explained", which is what I did but you really don't need both. The CEVNI book is the one you need if you are going to use the French (or other European) inland waterways. Assuming that you have the relevant RYA qualifications to get an ICC (eg Day Skipper or Powerboat etc) then you will already have most of what is in this book. So this is only required if either you want a refresher or you have lost your other books.

Having said all that, it is well up to the usual RYA standard, and is clear and concise with good illustrations.

Well thought out, written and illustrated. The self-test questions at the end of each section let you know whether you have taken it all in or need to go over things again. Haven't taken the course yet but this book gives a good grounding on the theory and will - I'm sure - prove very helpful.

5 out of 5 stars A great little book   August 15, 2005

I bought this before I attended the RYA 1 & 2 powerboat courses. This RYA book covers all the theoretical information that you need for the ICC qualification (RYA1 & 2). The illustrations are clear and easy to understand and help to clarify specific points in the theory. The book is useful as an introduction to boating and also a a reference book. I have been boating for several years and this book taught me a great deal - the things that all skippers should know. I would highly recommend this book for beginners and also as a reference book.
