I recently borrowed this book from the local library, but I was so impressed I've decided to buy a copy. It really is the dogs doo-dahs. I've been teaching bushcraft and survival for a number of years and I've collected a number of relevant books over that time. This book brilliantly encapsulates all the key points necessary, not just for basic survival, but general outdoor skills as well including the more esoteric skills of 'how to drive over difficult terrain', 'moving over snow' and 'using pack animals'. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book for any outdoor education instructor, bushcrafter, or survival instructor. As other reviewers have noted however, its only drawback is its size. This is a homestudy, 'before you go' guide, not something you can sling in your sack. And even if it was republished in a handier smaller size, it has so much information in it, it would probably be 6 inches thick. Far better than the Lofty Wiseman Survival book, this is the next generation of survival/ outdoor guide. Get it for your personal library - you won't regret it.

Excellent book. Extremely well laid out and packed full of infomation. If you only buy one survival book this is it. I have bought many over the years and can honestly say I wish I had found this one first.
The chapters are in a logical order and cover every kind of situation that one may encounter outdoors, whether you enjoy a days hiking to full blown bushcraft.
This book was bought for a 10 year old boy and is not beyond his reach. Neither is it patronising, so can be easily enjoyed by all ages and sexes. Highly enjoyable.

I spent 3 years teaching survival to various members of the UK Armed Forces - This is the finest book of this genre on the market. A must buy for outdoor enthusiasts and the general public, you just don't know when you may need a bit of knowledge! An excellent cause to donate money to aswell. Buy it.

Excellent book! Fantastic pictures! The only shame is that the book is quite big and it would be very akward to travel with it...
